Facts About Whiskey You Always Wanted to Know

It can be consumed with some ice cubes, “on the rocks,”; with a bit of ice water, or even pure, cowboy style. Some prefer it with lemon, while others take it with coconut water. For Irish writer George Bernard Shaw, he was “the liquid sunshine.” For the Brazilian poet and composer Vinícius de Moraes, he is the “bottled dog,” in an allusion to the canine reputation of “man’s best friend.”

What Is Whiskey Made Of?

If you’ve ever wondered what whiskey is made of, know that whiskey is a beverage made from distilled grains (usually barley, corn, or rye) and aged in barrels, usually oak. This process – where the drink’s distillation occurs – is one of the main stages of whiskey preparation, as these barrels give much of its characteristic flavor, so, you must try whiskey cocktail recipe (สูตรค็อกเทลจากวิสกี้ which is the term in Thai). The whiskey’s aging time is also considered, which can relate to a stronger flavor and a higher quality drink. Hence the different classifications between the types of whiskey may have been aged for at least three years; or more often for six, twelve, and eighteen years.

And How Is Whiskey Made?

The whiskey-making process is an ancient art developed and refined over time and can vary by type, recipe, equipment, and other factors. Check below, in general terms, how scotch whiskey is made, such as those of the Johnnie Walker brand:

Cereals are mixed with water and heated to turn their sugars into alcohol. This process is called “molting.”

Then the mixture is transferred to the “kiln,” a kind of oven used to dry the cereals, ground, and mix with water.

The water is heated, and yeast is added to the whiskey fermentation.

The liquid is double-distilled in a still, decreasing the water concentration and increasing the whiskey’s alcohol content and flavor.

The liquid is then transferred to oak barrels, where it matures for as long as necessary, for a minimum of three years. After this process, the real Scotch whiskey is ready to be consumed.
