What the New Tax Cuts for Low-Income Earners Mean for Melbourne’s Part-Time and Casual Workers
Every dollar matters for many of the half-time and informal workers throughout Melbourne. The latest tax tweaks come in an effort to ensure that workers take home more of their wages, providing further relief amid soaring living costs. Even though the savings do not seem like much, they can make a significant impact after one year especially for people working two jobs or people who work at flexible hours. The lowest marginal tax rate is set to fall from 16 to 15 per cent from 1 July 2026 and, in turn, to 14 per cent from 1 July 2027. All of these changes are part of a wider tax relief initiative for Australian workers.
